Projects and Activities Receiving Directed Donations

This section provides a list of the projects and activities for which donors have made directed donations to KS&A.  These projects include -

  • Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) Investigation

Description:  The purpose of this research project is to evaluate and refine the use of MRS technology using a 3-Tesla strength coil as a non-invasive measurement tool to assess biochemical properties and tissue structure of the human testis. Once developed, we are optimistic that this technology may provide a useful diagnostic tool with immediate benefits in relation to adults considering use of testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for assisted reproduction procedures, as well as long-term benefits by opening the door to the assessment of new treatment modalities directed to children, adolescents and adults for whom current invasive measurements would be prohibitive due to risks, costs and other potential harms.

Leadership:  The proposed principal and lead investigators for this work are Peter N. Schlegel, MD, FACS; Darius Paduch, MD, PhD and radiology co-investigators at the Weill Cornell Medical Center, The New York Presbyterian Hospital, Department of Urology in New York City.

  • Current Status:  During 2005, KS&A received a $50,000 donation from a private foundation, the proceeds of which are directed to support these efforts to develop a non-invasive technique for “seeing” inside the human testes.

KS&A knows of a number of important projects that, like this one could use your financial assistance.  If you would like to discuss making a directed donation through KS&A, please contact Robert Shelton, KS&A’s Executive Chairman, to discuss this possibility and to come up with a specific project that fits your financial and personal objectives.
