How to Participate in a Discussion

Starting a discussion or participating in one that someone else began is as easy as sending an email message to a family member or close friend

Once you have subscribed to the discussion list or lists that interest you, starting a discussion or participating in one that someone else began is as easy as sending an email message.  All of the work is handled behind the scenes, as your message is automatically forwarded to the other persons who share your interest.

This section describes how to participate in a discussion list.  It is divided into two sections: How to begin a new discussion, and how to add to a discussion that is already underway.

Beginning a New Discussion

Beginning a new discussion is as easy as composing an email message to a member of your family or to a close friend.  If you have a question, please post it.  No question is too big or too small.  If something’s on your mind that you’d like to share, or if you’ve encountered a challenge and would like to talk about it, KS&A’s discussion lists provide a great place to start.  You will probably receive answers from several people, and hear a variety of points of view.  Please recall that every individual is unique and you should always discuss treatment options and/or care recommendations with a qualified health care professional.

In order to begin a discussion, simply click on the link shown in the table below for the list(s) to which your topic for discussion pertains.  If you are not already a member of this list, then you will need to subscribe first; but if you have previously subscribed, then all you need to do is click on the appropriate link, fill out the “Subject” field, compose your message and then click “Send.” It’s that easy…

Peds 4-7 - For parents of children between the ages of 4 to 7 with an X or Y chromosome variation
XXY Peds 8-11 - For parents of 47XXY sons between the ages of 8 and 11

Participating in an Ongoing Discussion

Participating in an ongoing discussion is as easy as responing to an email message that you received from a member of your family or to a close friend.  If you have something you’d like to add to a discussion that’s underway, simply click on the “Reply” key, compose your comments and press “Send.” The rest is handled by the system, as your response or comment is conveyed to everyone else who is subscribed to the discussion list.

In some cases, it may be appropriate to respond “privately” - which means that your email will only be sent to one person rather than to all list subscribers.  In order to do this, simply copy the individual’s email address from the earlier message header and paste it into the “To” line of your email message.  However, most persons who subscribe to these discussion lists do so in order to learn from others and to share their personal experiences with others, and so you are encouraged where possible to participate through the discussion list rather than privately.

If you have any questions or problems using any of the KS&A lists, about it now.
