Louise Gane

Louise has had extensive experience with X and Y chromosome aneuploidies, dating to her work as a genetic associate between 1984 and 1987 at Children’s Hospital in Denver, where she had an opportunity to work with Dr. Arthur Robinson (known as the “grandfather” of sex chromosome conditions) and his genetic counselor, Mary Linden, M.S.

In 1991, she joined the team led by Dr. Randi Hagerman at the Fragile X Treatment & Research Center in Denver, Colorado as a genetic counselor. Under the directorship of Dr. Hagerman, Louise is now located at the UC Davis M.I.N.D. (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Institute in Davis, California, where she works as a Genetic Counselor, Assistant to the Director and Development Officer. 

Born in New Zealand and trained in the U.S., Louise earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Genetics, specializing in Genetic Counseling.  She has been trained in the cytogenetic and molecular diagnosis of X and Y chromosome aneuploidy, as well as associated counseling issues.  Louise lectures nationally and internationally and is co-author of many clinical and scientific publications.  Additionally, she has earned a Certificate in Fundraising Management from The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, Indianapolis, Indiana, and is listed in the Who’s Who of American Women.

Louise currently serves on the Eleanor Roosevelt Institute Board of Directors, and the Advisory Board for Developmental FX, both located in Denver, Colorado.  Previously, she served on the Ronald McDonald House Board of Directors in Sacramento, California, the National Society of Genetic Counselors Board of Directors, Washington D.C., and the National Fragile X Foundation Board of Directors, San Francisco, California.
